We are currently seeking a couple or sinlge person to help run our business at Wooleen Station.

Location: Wooleen Station, 700kms northeast of Perth, Western Australia.(Closest town 200kms)

Type: Full-Time

Duration: Mid to Late March – October 2017
(happy to negotiate longer/shorter stays )

Are you concerned about future sustainability and food security? Do you love the great outdoors? Are you passionate about customer service? Wooleen Station is playing out a bold eco-tourism experiment. It’s a turning point. How do we balance our food needs, the survival of the land and our duties to livestock?  Historic degradation, widespread erosion, low rainfall and an urgent need to reform antiquated outback laws are just a few of the critical issues you’ll be contributing towards by becoming part of the Wooleen team in 2017.

Wooleen is located north-east of Perth in the outback and is an award-winning hosted tourism business. We use tourism as a way to support our radical landcare project. We firmly believe that tourism should help nurture conservation and rehabilitation of our natural and cultural heritage. It is our goal that guests leave connected to country, aware of their surroundings and the choices they are making in life. We offer various forms of accommodation including hosted Homestead Stays, self-contained guesthouses and a range of camping options.

The property is 375,000 acres of stunning red dirt country.

Wooleen is also a cattle station dedicated to the restoration and sustainable use of the rangelands. Working at Wooleen is considered a unique and distinct opportunity to be part of a conservation effort recognised by the Australian Nation.

The station is currently run by Frances and David who have 3 friendly dogs, chickens, a large vegetable patch and (occasionally) cows. To learn more about the station, please watch this episode of Australian Story.

‘Service with a Smile’ online training is compulsory but will be provided to the successful applicants upon arrival at the station (or can be undertaken before arrival). You will receive a certificate to take on to future jobs. Hospitality and tourism experience is essential for this role as you will spend a lot of time with our customers. We have a uniform which we would expect you to wear when interacting with customers.

Guests who come to Wooleen are treated like friends and are offered a very personal experience which you would be expected to emulate. Help is sought with cleaning the facilities (homestead, guesthouses and camp-grounds) food preparation and assistance cooking, washing (dish and laundry), talking and hosting guests plus all other tasks that come with running a tourism business. We also require help outside the homestead which would include vegetable garden maintenance, gardening in general (Wooleen has large gardens which surround the homestead) fencing, yard construction and general ‘handyman’ tasks to maintain the historic buildings.

The job will require you look after the property for a weekend or up to a week when the owners may need to attend to things ‘off-station’.

The successful applicant will need to have:

  • Happy, sociable personality
  • Manners and willingness to contribute as part of a family

  • Computer literacy including a willingness to learn the little hotelier reservation system and speak articulately over the phone
  • High standards of hygiene and cleanliness
  • Understanding of housekeeping routines and attention to details
  • Ability to engage with customers in a genuine and meaningful way.
  • Have an appreciation for nature and the outdoors and be up for an adventure

Work hours are long, but not particularly strenuous with breaks throughout the day. July, August and September are extremely busy months.

Wooleen will supply all meals, amenities, uniform and accommodation (including linen and towels). Meals and accommodation are of a high standard, please request photos.
